Apparately, Disco "   "  (I won't say the word either) in 1979 when a disc jockey in Chicago encouraged people to come out to a baseball game for an admission price of .98 and a disco record that would be blown up by the disc jockey in center field between games.  The event started as an effort to sell seats to a White Sox-Detroit Tigers' doubleheader, it turned into a mass anti-disco movement which disco never recovered from and the event turned into a riot.  The event is know as Disco Demolition Night and a movie is in the works with Jack Black as the disc jockey.  For the record, I wasn't there.  I was only 10 years old at the time.

In my opinion, as long as there are fans like us that keep disco in our hearts, Disco is not "   ".

THANK U!! Thanks for that i remember someone telling me this story... though the way you told it was a heck of alot better.... (lets just say it was an ex telling me the story... you know like he was talking to a child .. explaining why disco *&^(&.. and blah blah, thats why hes the ex..that and cause hes a Dodger fan.. who in their right, baseball loving mind would be a blue crew fan.. ATLANTA BABY!!!) i like your story much better.. thanks again...

as for the part about it being ,   i dont think it is either.. I think this genre of music is bigger than most.. thats just my opion.

about the movie.. (love jack black) Maybe when it does come out..maybe Gruvworks can host  a night at the movies.. i mean we can all pay our way.. but we can make it an event.. you know in honor of DISCO.. WE CAN ALL WEAR SHIRTS THAT SAY "IF JASON CAN COME BACK 13 TIMES .. SO CAN DISCO!! ".. just a thought..

yikes 3:10 gotta go.. take care!

Thank you and you're welcome.  I am also a Jack Black fan and I'm very curious about this movie, so I would like to see it.  LOVE the t-shirt idea, the Jason idea was too funny!!  By the way, I hope you got enough sleep!  Be safe.

Well this is a great topic to discuss and comment to. Disco never (Can't say it either). It just escalated to another level. If you really think about it Disco openend the doors for so many other styles & genres of music. For example, House music today is the Disco of the present time. It posesses the same or similar basslines, breaks or even intro's. Many artists today even sample beats (a.k.a. snippets) from Disco. Disco is very influential to me, there were so many talented artists such as Moroder, Kebekelektrik, Soccio, & Lepage. You could never duplicate them, however you could use their music as a guideline if you are an artist in the electronic music field. So here is my comment on this issue, this style of music will forever live on because there will always be people like us to support it. Don't forget our sons, & daughters hopfully will carry on this tradition as well. Bless you all my Disco Brothers & Sisters.

Ha!  House music has so many sub-genres now a days.  There's progressive, tribal, funky, Chicago, and alot more out there.  When I'm out dancing to the EDM (electronic dance music) and I happen to hear a familiar track from back in the days, I always tell someone... "that track is from the disco days."

There's also this other genre that's beginning to spread but very slowly.   It's called Electro (electrohousediscopunktechno) and if you listen carefully, you'll find a disco tune in there.  Oh yeah!

So with that being said .... NO Disco isn't dead, it's just taking it easy and getting ready for the big comeback!

I totally agree with you, House Music & everthing else in between is still simply Disco. However, Disco never needed a comeback because it was always here. It's just that everyone is getting back in tune with our Disco roots. I'm so happy that there is a big surge in all this. I mean it's overwhelming how everybody from back in the day is loging in to these sites (Backtodisco, Grooveworks, Etc.) & supporting these Events so we can relive some of the greatest moments of our lives with great people from back in the day. Nuff said, shout out to all Male/Female Promoters & D.J's who are making all this possible again!! Oh, & another shout out to all the baby sitters. Because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be able to get away & have our fun. Don't you all agree???? LOVE DISCO STYLE!!!!!http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/smile.gif

That's great!  Me and my husband were an early bloomer when we had our son, so now we are sharing and enjoying the music with our 18 year old.
