The overarching purpose of our lives is to keep growing in love--love for ourselves, our neighbor, and our God. That's the way we become more like God, Who is love (1 Jn 4:8 & 16). Our friendships gently expand our love beyond ourselves and our families. Friendships instill in us a genuine concern for the welfare of others. And that is what love is all about.

But not just any friends will do. We need to be, and to cultivate, good friends, that is, friends who are wholesome, trustworthy people. "Birds of a feather" do "flock together." More than we realize, as if by osmosis, we do become like the friends we keep. Peer pressure is persistent and powerful. Gradually we absorb each other's desirable, and undesirable, traits. When it comes to friends, quality is far more important than quantity. We depend upon the good sense and good advise of friends. True friends will tell us the truth, even when it hurts. They will warn us if our drinking is becoming a problem, a romance too passionate, or a cult is seducing us.

How true that is!  I've been going through nothing but storms this past month, but my best friend calls me everyday without fail just to let me know she cares and to keep my head up.

I'm copying what Midnight Desire posted and pasting it on another message board that I post on.  Some people seem to think that "friend" means taking advantage of that "friend" and also talking BS about them.

My co-worker always asks for my opinion cuz she knows I will always say it like it is.

Thanks for sharing that Joe.

Yes Blondie a friend is someone who is there for you and gives you moral support but really only knows the superficial you but a true friend is there to tell you how it really is and not tell you what you want to hear...and to accomplish that position I guess we all have to get to know that person in-depth..not only from their exterior because words are from the teeth out but by whats inside because no matter how hard we try we can never change or mask our true identities..On that note I think you are a very sweet person even though I've only known you for a short while I know you have a good heart..just like everyone else I've come across the boards
